Red Hot Heart Shaped Potatoes From Tesco
This features story just makes me smile!
Tesco retail store in the UK will be carrying unique heart-shaped potatoes which will be made available in time for Valentine’s Day. The potatoes, colored in red (how fitting!) are from France and are known as Franceline. While these are red, these aren’t naturally heart-shaped. But their growth to this shape was aided by molding.
Interestingly, these kinds of potatoes were previously banned from the market because the shape didn’t meet EU standards. Now, though, they have found a way to sell it, if only for this particularly occasion.

Supermarkets are to introduce an ideal treat for Valentine’s Day romantics - heart-shaped potatoes. The unique roasting spuds grown in France are now allowed to be sold in Britain after an EU ruling banning the sale of misshapen fruit and vegetables was scrapped in November.
The red spuds - known as Franceline potatoes - will be launched at Tesco stores in time for Valentine’s Day on Saturday. Tesco potato buyer Jonathan Corbett said: “Amazingly, the heart-shaped potatoes have never been sold over here before because of their unusual shape. But now their time has come.”
The potatoes are grown mainly in clay which helps mould their shape.
